  1. Answer Questions You’re Asked Often – Stop writing the same email over and over and email a link to a blog post instead. You can also make the blog post a newsletter article that links back to your website. That way you’re giving information your audience wants/needs and driving traffic to your website.
  2. Tips for Your Target Market – Once you’ve identified your target market, you can create content designed with them in mind. What would your ideal client want to hear from you? What problem do you solve for them? Show them you’re the expert in a simple blog post.
  3. How to – Tell readers how to do something related to your business. Don’t worry about giving away your expertise for free (which you are but that’s not the point). If you’re a baker, tell readers how to frost a cake. While they may attempt to frost a cake, they will more than likely hire you because you’re the expert who can frost a cake better and faster than they can.
  4. Interview a Colleague or Co-worker – Showcase members of your team in an interview blog post. Make it interesting by asking business related questions as well as personal questions about their hobbies and passions.
  5. New Spin on an Old Idea – Seinfeld was an entire television series about nothing out of the ordinary and it was a big hit. While I am no Seinfeld, I did write a blog post about the oft-talked about topic of time management called Time Management Isn’t about Managing Time that got some attention from some big names. I challenged the ordinary and said that time didn’t need to be managed; we have to learn how to manage the time we have. It was a new twist on an old idea and it got people’s attention.
  6. Infographics – In today’s busy world, there’s little time to stop and read a blog post making it important to add infographics to our blogs. Tag with key words just as you would with any image for similar SER impact.
  7. Lists – (See what I did here? This post IS a list post.)
  8. Case Study – Rather than a list of testimonials on a page of your website, consider using case studies as blog posts. What was the problem the client had? How did you help? What were the results? Keep the post simple and use numbers to illustrate success if you can.
  9. Collection Post – The end of the year is a great time to compile your favorite blog posts or articles related to your business. If you’ve got the content available on your website, you could do a blog post of your Top 10 Posts of 2014.
  10. Review – Write a review of a product or service related to your business.
  11. News about Your Industry – Take a news story and give your spin or opinion on it. You might add details that aren’t included in the original article.
  12. Press Releases/Company News – Add press releases and other company news such as community service as blog posts. This is especially effective for SER if you’re a locally based business.
  13. Videos – YouTube is the top search engine right after Google so it makes sense that video posts would be valuable to your blog. Tag the videos with keywords just as you do with infographics, images, and written content.
  14. Community News – If you’re a locally based business talk about events happening in the community that would be interesting to your readers.
  15. Lifestyle Tips Related to Your Business – Choose topics related to your business and your target client. A baker might share tips for choosing the wedding cake that’s right for you. A real estate agent might post about local events or reasons to move to a particular neighborhood.
